These were taken in Hawaii, with my cell phone as my big camera ran out of battery power.

O trees

Blogging from A to Z, my theme is happy things. O for open, outdoors, over!

Over. How can over be a happy thing? My photograph is from last week, the trees here are so tall and tower over us!

I love to walk outdoors. Outdoors is another happy thing for me. I had a thousand posts on this blog before I really knew what it is about. It is celebrating the place where I heal, where I stay balanced from work: outdoors. I get to share the photographs I take:

Open. When I walk outdoors, my heart opens. I feel joy! It is still dark here this morning, but as soon as it begins to get light, the birds start their madness! I sing back to them. This year I am learning the song of the towhee. The smaller birds are so good at hiding in bushes when I want to take pictures. I want to sing like this towhee:

And those are today’s happy things about the letter O.

door into spring

This is for Norm2.0’s Thursday doors: my front door this past Saturday. It was so gorgeous and the plum flowers opened and opened.

Prayers for a friend of mine, who called in the night, and was in the emergency room last night. All healing thoughts, prayers, denominations accepted…. with grateful thanks.

How I water orchids

the grocery store orchid
instructions
say
to water with a weekly cube of ice

no

think of the orchid
perched high in the rain forest
on the branch of a tree
in the canopy

an ice cube

seems cruel

once a week
I take each orchid
and place it in a glass container
and pour water soaking

like the rains

inundating warm water

and let it soak a little

lift the orchid out to drain

and promise it the rain will come

again next week

sometimes
the orchids bloom and bloom and bloom

for months

promise them the rain will come

again next week
