tall tree

previous

Our heron flew to these trees: see? I crop the photo and there she is.

I am saying she, but I don’t know. For so long we have used “he” to mean both he and she. Let’s reverse that for the next 2000 years, use “she” to mean both she and he. Turn around is fair, right?

And those are really big trees. She doesn’t look so out of place standing there. Nor would I have noticed her if I had not followed her flight.

water door

This is for Thursday doors, though today is Friday. I took this from one of the docks down town, looking back. The buildings are from the late 1800s and many have elaborate decoration on the street side and then are brick on the water side. The tide is quite far out in this shot, with the pilings and beach and barnacles exposed. These are old doors for our area.

blind shot

This is for the Daily Prompt: overcome.

I took this with my camera at full zoom and knew I was photographing a bird, but not what bird. I did know there were goldfinches around, because I would spot their flight, up and down like a wave, and heard them. IΒ  hold my breath and freeze to try to catch the shot. This worked! Overcoming the disadvantage of distance and my limited vision…. and letting the camera work.

Let us also continue to work to overcome discrimination.

Sweet Honey in the Rock: Would you harbor me?

schoolhouse door

I am submitting this to Thursday Doors, did not have time yesterday. This is a Wisconsin rural schoolhouse that friends of mine own. They added on to it when they retired and moved there. Things change and the next move is closer to family, but everyone came to say farewell to the schoolhouse.

book door

Here is a photograph of my book box doors for Norm 2.0’s Thursday Doors. I have a library box and books come in and go out. Everything from textbooks to Dostoevsky to Louisa May Alcott to mysteries and romances.

Sometimes I put coffee out, too, and have my coffee in the yard in the early morning. My daughter wants to know how people will know I am not going to poison them, but if I am out there drinking the coffee, I think they will be reassured.

We have at least 6 Little Free Libraries in town, including one in front of our grade school with lots of kids’ books. Hooray for books and for sharing and exchanging them!

From a train

Taken from the train from Chicago to Seattle, in 2014.

This is for Norm 2.0 Thursday doors. Ok, it’s not Thursday. I got confused and thought it was Friday doors. Busy week. On Wednesday I was sure it was Thursday and yesterday I was frustrated that it was not Friday and today I’m a little tired….
