For the Daily Prompt: dubious.
I stand on the shore, dubious, while the teams launch out into the sleet.
The older generation worries while the young set forth and explore.

A friend has lost a teenage daughter to death.
I hope that where the daughter is, is beauty.
For the Daily Prompt: riff.
I think of a rock and roll riff.
Lots of them.
And here is a rock. A rock and a leaf. A riff on rock and roll….
For photrablogger’s Mundane Monday #135.
I took this in San Antonio in September.
still in my heart
why are you there?
you have sold me out
more than once
disappeared when I was sick
returning when I was better
long after I stopped being contagious
and noted when the news caught up
with what I’d been saying about opiates
she’s been talking about this
you say to others
I realize that you did not believe me
until the news agreed
another with words
“If you make me choose
I will choose her.”
I think “you just did.”
do you hear?
that is a threat
to shut me down
to shut me up
to shut me out
you won’t choose
I choose now
I walk away from your threat
another tells me to visit
and talk about her dead
she has refused to talk about
my dead
to me
for five years
how can she ask me
to talk about hers?
I walk away
kicking the falling leaves
I carry each of you
in my heart
as the space between us
widens
For Mindlove’sMisery’s Sunday Writing Prompt #288.
Over the Rhine: All of my favorite people.
For the Daily Prompt: black.
I took this hiking in August 2013. I was out sick with strep A pneumonia and it was in my muscles as well. I had been sick since June. Talking made me cough. I couldn’t hike fast, but I could hike.
We were mushrooming, carefully. We found a few black mushrooms. Photographed and left: we only collected edibles that we were solid on.

It was a beautiful and healing hike for me.
For the Daily Prompt: black.
I took this on the Poulsbo World Wide Photowalk. The kids were ahead of us and I tried to catch it quickly. My friend wanted to too, but he was on steps with wet leaves and crutches: don’t do anything fast in that case.
A day late, but blessings on the veterans and their spouses and their children and their parents and their friends and the people who help them when they come home… and really, everyone.
As the teams head out to race again, they bail. The boat is leaned deliberately to collect the water and dump it. I love the ease in the stances of both sailors and the teamwork.
This is the hot swap at the regatta at Lake Whatcom last Sunday: where the boats come in, switch teams and all go out again. Fast and furious! I like the symmetry, all lined up.
I am the neophyte photographing sailing.
I took this in 2011, as a Mad as Hell Doctor, traveling around California talking about single payer.
We are losing more and more physicians. Our three counties, 450,000 people, are down from 8 neurologists ten years ago, to 2. The last one standing in the county of 350,000 says that he is really tired.
Single payer, medicare for all….. because I dream of other countries, civilized countries, countries where there is one set of rules, I can take care of any person who comes to me, I know what is covered and what is not, and I actually get paid….
