For the weekly Photo Challenge: windows.
Home again and early morning, down at the Maritime Center. I love the polarized light and the color of the building and the chairs.
And boats! Both inside the building and the reflections.

Our heron is grooming again. We had a discussion last night: do they have more bones in the neck than people? And what about giraffes?
Here is a lovely blog post about birds and bones and herons’ necks from 2013: http://rosy-finch.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-unfeathered-bird-review-and.html. Add that book to my wish list, it sounds both gorgeous and fascinating.

For the Daily Prompt: interest.
I am focused on a group of gulls at the end of the dock, hoping to catch one taking off. What interests me here is the edges… and catching parts.
This is for photrablogger’s Mundane Monday #129.
We were two of the three first responders to a house fire across the street and two doors down two weekends ago. The house was an inferno when we got there. Both the resident and two cats got out. The fire was in the morning. We returned in the evening and walked around. It is terrifying to see what melts, what explodes, how fast the destruction can happen.
And sending love to the injured and lost in Las Vegas and still thinking of all of the hurricane victims.
I wish today were mundane.
Our heron keeps an eye on us, her paparazzi, but begins to groom her feathers in the early morning fun. I am thinking about keeping my balance on the branch, way up in the air, and then I cannot do that with my neck. She is amazing! And so calm and relaxed moving on a high branch in the tree.
For the Daily Prompt: athletic. I wish I were that strong and limber.
For the Daily Prompt: popular.
I was on Herron Island for two nights. We were the second responders to a house fire and called 911.
Are the gulls grouped for social reasons? For survival too. If there is a predator, those sleeping will be awakened by the others.
The hurricanes and the house fire: I am thinking about emergencies and emergency response and emergency preparedness. How are you prepared? The fire trucks had to come to the island by ferry and it took twenty minutes.
I am donating to Shelterbox, that sends disaster boxes all over the world, shelter, water filters, cooking equipment and food supplies. And crayons and a coloring book for the children. I hope they are arriving in all the places, wars, hurricanes and other disasters.
I moved around the tall tree taking photographs. Our heron perches so comfortably, high up. Her feathers are so complex and beautiful.
