Sand and crabs

Let’s see: sand. We have lots of sand, but the beach here is mostly cold. The water temperature is 45 degrees F today. It ranges from 45-55 here over the year. Wetsuit, drysuit or well, my daughter and her friends would go in. Brrrrr.

I love walking the beaches here though. We can walk 6 miles from North Beach to Cape George if we time the tides right. Marrowstone Island has miles of mostly deserted beach as well. Sand and agates and rocks and eagles and great blue herons and coyotes and sea lions in the water.

Not everyone likes sand though. Here is an example:

And while we are at it, another sea ditty and a favorite: The Crabby Song. I used to sing it at work under my breath. Very professional, right?

Don’t come back

I wish you weren’t coming back. Ever.
I don’t want to see you here again.
I drive down to the beach thinking never.
If your car was there, I would park you in.
That makes me laugh out loud at how absurd
my stupid heart is longing all the time.
Hurt and vengeful, all those words
for a heart in tears. You won’t change your mind.
My pessimistic side growls I don’t care.
And thinks up gruesome ends for you.
It’s sad that you’ll be torn up by a bear
or eaten by Sasquatch in a stew.
Just think, at last you’ve managed to be free
From one thing always. It happens to be me.

National Bird

“Hey Martha! Look, she’s got a real camera! Serious zoom lens on that baby!”

“Ralph, look dignified!”

“Dignified! Are you kidding?”

“Ralph, we are the National Bird! Bald Eagles! Look proud! Like me!”

“Nah, Martha, I’m crossing my eyes. She’ll get a surprise when she downloads THESE photos! Come on, Martha, mug for once!”

“Ralph, you are impossible!”

Stone flower

Actually I am not sure if this is a flower. It is a plant attached to a rock, from the Fort Worden beach yesterday. Do seaweeds flower? Some of them do change color at different times of year. This one is wearing fall and winter colors.

For Cee’s Flower of the Day.

NOAA’s What is Seaweed?

Wikipedia says yes, some seaweed flower: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seaweed.

Home sky

The Ragtag Daily Prompt is limit, as in the sky’s the limit!

I was traveling for longer than I expected, 19 days, and got home this week. Yesterday was the first day I went for a beach walk in a month!

The sky was absolutely beautiful with the sun breaking through.

There was a pale delicate rainbow.

I did not find a clear agate, but there are wonderful rocks.

I think this is a juvenile bald eagle, just hanging in the air and enjoying the sky!

rebirth

I take joy in the birth of the sun each morning and the winter promise of light and warmth and spring.

Joy to you and yours today!

I took this in late September, 2022. In the winter the sun does not rise above the bluff on North Beach.
