For the Daily Prompt: coincidence. I had my camera ready and caught this. Coincidence or skill? Some of each, and trying to catch birds in flight is very much like trying to catch synchronized swimmers out of the water. I photographed synchro for seven years.
For the Daily Prompt: focused.
Walking on Herron Island, there were stellar jays and woodpeckers and small birds flitting fast. Much harder to catch in a focused photograph than the great blue heron standing still. I like the light through the trees anyhow….
A visit to Herron Island this past weekend, and lots of herons. Are they herrons there? Both mornings this heron was fishing from the raft in the early morning.
This is for photrablogger’s Mundane Monday 128. I walked past Travis Park in San Antonio going from the hotel to the conference center. I went on both Saturday and Sunday evening and listened to great jazz.
Oh, there! This is a yellow crowned night heron. I also photographed a juvenile along Riverwalk, but this adult was in the busy section at 5 pm. About 30 feet up in a tree, but not otherwise hidden. There are ducks and pigeons and sparrows along Riverwalk, but it seems that the herons are thriving too. Bravo for this strip of nature that runs through the city like an oasis, winding among the streets.

Itchy feathers… now, just hold still and pose for me. This zoom lens wears me out.
Meanwhile, there are the tour barges going by on Riverwalk and lots of people going by on foot and outdoor tables. No one but me is staring at the higher branches of the tree.
This watcher is lightly hidden. Watching the tourists while I am watching her.
Oh! We need a better view! Turn, bird! I can’t wade out into the river here!
Turning a little….
The trees along the Riverwalk are gorgeous and cooling and soothing. This is from two evenings ago, busy and noisy at the end of the day…
