This is the eagle that was feasting on a dead octopus last week. We had to walk by to get home. We tried not to spook her, but she flew out to land on a rock just out from shore. Her wings look like the waves and the waves like her wings.

Look at this pair of eagles flying in tandem, together. Maybe they don’t agree with each other about everything. They are both individuals. But they fly together. A symbol for our country?
On Sunday I go on a long hike with my visiting son and daughter, out North Beach. We see three eagles in trees and then the reason. A dead octopus on the beach, large. A sea gift of protein. Four more eagles and other birds soared while people were close. Returning, this juvenile bald eagle is on the beach, happy with this meal. The speckled feathers changing from juvenile to adult are quite gorgeous. I want to go in the sea and meet our giant pacific octopus, too, some day.
For the Ragtag daily prompt: March.
March is flowers! I took this in February but now everything outside is budding, a little late for here. Usually my camellia is blooming by the end of January. The magnolia has heavy fuzzy buds and I have a fifth orchid, my tiniest sweetest one, blooming.
For the Ragtag Daily Prompt: diametric.
I am trying to think how I’ve seen diametric used other than “diametrically opposed”.
Here are diametric robins. Maybe they are discussing politics. At any rate they are facing opposite ways. Look at how polite they are, taking turns singing and listening to each other speak with such attention. Diametric to our current politics, I think.
Not pets, right? PETS here stands for President Elect Training Seminar. We are gathered to meet each other, exchange ideas and prepare for a year as president of our local club. Yesterday the president elect for Rotary International spoke to us, amazing. We also had a flag ceremony with the flags you see, from nearly 200 countries. How amazing!
For the Ragtag Daily Prompt: air.
Oooo, wrens. I hear them more than I see them. This is from last January and I heard this wren. I was trying to imitate it and photograph it. I got this shot of it dropping out of sight. No fear here, catching air!
I am thinking of the phrase “Places in the world a woman would walk.” I know it’s by Grace Paley. A short story? A line in a story?
Do you feel safe walking in your neighborhood? Or on a beach near you or in a forest? If you are male, do you thinks it’s safe for a woman to walk alone in your neighborhood? Do you feel differently about a male? And the same questions to woman.
And is there an age limit? Is it safe for me to walk the beach alone because my hair is mostly white? What about my son and daughter, both in their 20s?
Safety is relative. One of the unsafe things about our beaches is the warnings about an earthquake and tsunami. We have sand cliffs that will most certainly collapse. I walk the beach and eye the cliffs. There is some luck involved and I accept that.
