For the Daily Prompt: present.
Each day and each night, every sunrise and every sunset, is a gift.
Taken at Lake Matinenda in 2006.
For the Daily Prompt: courage.
My son, in 2006. I think he is celebrating a hit… in a mud fight.
For the Daily Prompt: courage.
In 2006, I am photographing the cousins all swimming and a mud fight starts…. oh. Should I stop it? “No rocks!” I say. My sister chimes in, “Don’t throw mud at us!” My daughter prudently gets out.
For Norm2.0’s Thursday doors.
This is in a cabin at Lake Matinenda, in 2006. The door is to a screen porch, green and on the left of the picture. This is shot through the screen, other than my daughter. I love the layers of family all busy with things…and the missing screens. We repaired them that summer.

instructions
say
to water with a weekly cube of ice
no
think of the orchid
perched high in the rain forest
on the branch of a tree
in the canopy
an ice cube
seems cruel
once a week
I take each orchid
and place it in a glass container
and pour water soaking
like the rains
inundating warm water
and let it soak a little
lift the orchid out to drain
and promise it the rain will come
again next week
sometimes
the orchids bloom and bloom and bloom
for months
promise them the rain will come
again next week
