For the Daily Prompt: archaic.
I hope you sing for joy on a beautiful morning, too.

I am thinking about Earth Day today, because on Earth Day I was singing in two concerts.
My theme is happy things: under, us, universe.
Under us
earth
over us
universe
One attendee at the concert said that we added to the joy in the universe.
Happy Earth Day.

Blogging from A to Z, the letter R for rainshadow, rehearsal, raise your voice! Only I did R yesterday and should be on the letter S! Sing, shout and shadow…there, whew!
My father and seven other people started Rainshadow Chorale in 1997. I joined when I moved here. He died in 2013, but we are still singing. Two concerts today and one tomorrow, and by yesterday they were nearly sold out. All three.
We had a dress rehearsal last night, with Rebecca Rottsolk, our brilliant director, doing the final touches. It’s the first time that we rehearsed in the space that we will sing in, so we pay close attention to how we sound there.
And raise your voice in song and praise! We walked this morning and traded songs with the birds: song sparrows, red wing blackbirds and quieter birds…the above photo of the bird slipping quietly through the ripples. Here is another view:

I think that this is a Hooded Merganser, here. Hooray for happy things and the letter r. And the letter s too!

Blogging from A to Z, happy things. M for music, music, music!

My father and sister and I had a chance to record some of the family songs. This one is called Down by the Sally Gardens. My parents used to sing the duet.
May you have a joyous Monday!

For Wordless Wednesday.
A picture of me and my sister in early 2012, about 6 weeks before she died.
Some days are about longing.
There is a door, so I submit this to Norm2.0 Thursday Doors.
Taken in Wisconsin, in a meadow, zoom all the way out. It took me multiple tries to get the plane of focus right…
On Sunday we had a two hour choral practice, for the concert this Thursday. I go for a walk in the sun up in the hill behind North Beach afterwards. I am still singing the Numberless Stars piece. I am in a small quartet, first alto angel. We will sing from the balcony with the rest of the chorus in the main part of the church.
I walk by a tree and a squirrel chatters at me, scolding. I laugh and sing back to the squirrel.
The squirrel stops chattering and comes down the tree. Around to the front about three feet up and just stays, listening.

She goes out the branch and sits, looking at me. She does some grooming and nearly goes to sleep.
By now I am singing “Squirrels, squirrels,” instead of the correct words, which are “Stars, stars.” A man walks by with two small dogs on a leash. My squirrel does not budge and the dogs don’t notice. The man laughs at me singing to a squirrel.
I sing to the squirrel for a while and then walk on. How magical, to have a creature listen and even relax!
Here she is, nearly asleep…..
