sky

For the Ragtag Daily Prompt: slapdash. I can’t think of a photograph of something I want to call slapdash. It feels judgemental today, unless it’s something of mine, and that feels vulnerable. And then I start thinking about the sky…..

sky

Is this a careless sky?

Were the angels in a hurry when they painted it?

Did the clouds come out as heaven wanted?

There is nothing slapdash about the sky.

truck with doors

For Norm2.0’s Thursday doors.

Two weeks ago I was visiting family in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. This is an art installation in town and the multitude of doors made me think of Thursday doors! Hoods, too. What day would we choose for hoods? I am afraid that many of the hoods I think of are grim, but these hoods are fine…

loon

For the Ragtag Daily Prompt: sobriquet.

Are loons loony?

The lonesome call of the loon in breeding plumage on lakes turns out to be long distance communication: calling for one’s mate or for relief on the nest or staying in touch feeding.

The laughing call of the loon is anxious. It is done to lure predators and dangerous others away from the nest or away from the young. The young are in the water, riding on the parents’ backs when tired, by about 48 hours after hatching.

The sobriquet loon mean something very different to me than the usual meaning of loon, beloved and sober.

daily work

For the Ragtag Daily Prompt: labour. Or labor.

Happy Labor Day! I have been gone, out of the reach of wifi, out of the reach of an outlet, hidden in the woods. I did have batteries and took photographs. What is the work of a woodpecker, what is their daily task? Do they want to take a vacation day, are there days where they slack, are there days where they do not do much?

I am happy to be back and sad too….

Rocket’s existential crisis

I did not take this photograph. My son Trey did. This is Rocket, one of his pet rats. Apparently my son had to lie in wait for just the right moment, when Rocket was resting.

Yes, some days feel like this. Lying there, eyes open, hands empty, feet limp, head on a brick…. some days feel like a cage… some days I need a brick….

orange

For the Ragtag Daily Prompt: zest.

I picked the photograph, taken off the dock in Port Townsend in 2017, before reading the prompt. It doesn’t fit the prompt. Oh, yes, it does, it’s the color. Quite gorgeous to watch slowly swimming along.

On a foggy day.

And the opposite shore and even the ferry, can only sometimes be seen.
