The bufflehead males are so dramatic when they stretch their wings! All that flash of dramatic coloring and he looks three times as big! I caught this hiking with my daughter last week.
Happy April Fool’s! I don’t think this little bushtit is a fool. The expression is foolish or distracted but the bird is not foolish. It is wisely having a delicious breakfast in my yard.
Anyone can be captured with a foolish expression or in a foolish moment. Me, too! I love being silly and foolish with my kids and dear friends. My daughter says she can tell when I will be goofy before I say anything, just by my expression.
Norm’s photographs today are of 11th century doors, well, I am so jealous. My local door pictures are feeling unsatisfying. I like this door to the ferry though, more of a virtual door, with the ramp up and waiting. I went out this morning and with the cloud cover everything was shades of blues and silvers and greys, except for the wind sock.
I like all the cormorants on the pilings too, waiting to warm up.
Yesterday felt so spring like. I wandered around the neighborhood taking pictures. These are in a pot on my front stoop. I curled up in the sun in my lower yard and took a nap for an hour in the sun as well.
Oooo, wrens. I hear them more than I see them. This is from last January and I heard this wren. I was trying to imitate it and photograph it. I got this shot of it dropping out of sight. No fear here, catching air!
We have beer gardens at many local events. Centrum music, the Wooden Boat Festival. People have to show identification to get into the beer garden and must keep the drink in there.
I want to start a Sober Garden as well as a Beer Garden. Let’s have a substance free area, roped off, for families and those who are choosing not to use substances, alcohol, opioids, tobacco, meth, whatever. At the events with families, the Beer Garden is roped off, but let’s rope both off. Let us have a Sober Garden and have food trucks and drinks and welcome families and welcome people who are not drinking alcohol or using other substances.
Let’s bring children out to the music and let families set a conscious example. There is no stigma if it is a Sober Garden for families and to support the whole community, including those recovering from addiction. Let us make it conscious and attractive.
When we rope off the Beer Garden and check identification to get in, aren’t we sending the message to the youth, especially teens, this is special, you are not allowed. Let us reverse that and have a bracelet for those going in to the Sober Garden. A sticker, a garden for families, a garden for people healing, a garden for making a different choice.
The snow has melted in my neighborhood. There is lots higher up, but it’s gone here. I am still enjoying the photographs, the contrast of color in the snow.
