Sing to the morning sun
I took the bandage off today. I would really like to heal.
The scab between my breasts is bright hot angry red.
I gently scrub with soap and the scab slowly peels
showing the crater in my chest. I am the walking dead.
The small child wants so badly to believe your word is true.
You say you’ll be her friend forever no matter what.
My devil laughs, a cynic. My angel turns away from you.
When you walk away you drag behind each inch of my child’s gut.
I see the wound is pulsing and now I give a start.
You break your word, you lie, to my much abused small child.
The pulsing mass I see is my aching bleeding heart.
Every injury triples on the child you hold inside.
I don’t stop loving even though I am gravely hurt.
You’ve never loved at all: you grind hearts into the dirt.

I am Elwha.
I am a toothsome devil, young, muscular, handsome. I am sixteen pounds of muscle, a tiger cat, ISO of wonderful lady. DON’T get confused by my sister in the photograph. She likes to lean on me sometimes, especially when Mother is gone. Mother has been home, thank goodness. She goes out in the nasty car, but comes back by nighttime. It has been hot this week. She slept in the basement bed one night. My sister and I were a bit worried, it was different and confusing, but she apparently doesn’t have our heat tolerance. We loll in the upstairs when we want the heat.
Contact me, babes. I am in my prime and want to meet the lady cats.

I am reading the list of medical conditions that put people at high risk from Covid-19.
I can nearly say that being a live human “bean”, as Walk Kelly would say, puts one at high risk from Covid-19.
My intuition studies medical conditions
alcohol, overweight, diabetes, drugs
it doesn’t say much about auto emissions
or the healthy power of genuine hugs
hypertension, asthma, bad livers or hearts
Covid could get you if you don’t watch out
I wonder if risks include noxious farts
I’m in denial and not a bit stout
dementia, disability, HIV or depression
check off the ones you don’t have, think positive!
I eat an ice cream bar while secretly confessing
that eating and drinking might be causative
Happy or sad or pie in the sky
There is a daily risk that I could die

Really, that list contains nearly everyone.

Oh, my gosh, the rhododendron’s are popping like popcorn.

For Mother’s Day, my kids all called. My daughter sent tea and a card. A friend and I went to the Chimacum Woods Nursery and the rhododendrons there are mind blowing. They have been building the gardens there for over 40 years.

For the next few weeks my flowers are going to be rhodys, rhodys and more beautiful rhodys!

Fish fly in the ocean, water is their sky
their lives in three dimensions, they jump into the air
escaping larger fish, schools of large and small fry
but up above their ceiling fly birds who eat them there
I dwell on the flat, can jump on land or fly in planes
go right or left or back or front, but less up and down
did seals come onto land but regret the ocean main
return to ocean free again to swim around
my daughter’s team synchronized at the surface of the pool
legs held straight out then spiral down into the water’s embrace
breath held, they disappear, they seem to break the rules
of oxygen. I hold mine too until they surface for a space
fish fly in the ocean, water is their sky
sometimes we dream of heavens where we remember how to fly

My daughter was a synchronized swimmer from age 7 to high school, then swim team. Her comfort in the element of water is way beyond most people.

My daughter entering her other element.

The close picture was taken with my zoom lens, but she was not close at all.

I was “life guarding” though she was out far enough that there was not much I could do.

For the Ragtag Daily Prompt: sturdy. I am not sure why. I was thinking that the ocean is sturdy and that fish can swim in more dimensions than we humans on land. And swimmers are sturdy too.
