mediocre super hero(ine)s

For the Ragtag Daily Prompt: plump.  This turtle kinetic sculpture is not that plump….

Taken Saturday, at the water part of the Kinetic Sculpture Race. It is all human powered and they have to go out in the cold water, currently around 52 degrees F. Brrrrr. The teams have a brake test down Monroe Street first and then line up to head for the water. The Coast Guard stands ready and various kayaks and sailboats are there.  They have to get to a destination and bring back the superhero(ine) mask!

The theme this year is mediocre superhero(ine)s. Lots of glitter and capes and boots. The costumes are wonderful!

To the women and men who are speaking up, there is nothing mediocre about your heroism.

tech fan

We went downtown yesterday, walked, to the Kinetic Sculpture Race. They dress like clowns, but I have way more respect for the people at Kinetics than the US Senate.

There is a Maker Fair too, with the Robotics teams out and fundraising. The balls in the caught my eye. But it’s the very small tech fan that I admire. She is fascinated.

I hope she has the opportunities. We need women in tech, in the Senate, in the House, in the Presidency.

varnish

Varnish makes me think of boats. Wooden boats. We have one group that does not use much varnish: our Kinetic Sculpture racers. Human powered, on land, on sea and through the mud bog. All sizes and shapes and themes. Wonderful!

We have helpers for the teams in the water, and here two kinetic sculptures are making their way to land. The water is a few degrees above 50 and they have to take turns exiting on the ramp. We have Kinetic Kops to protect the public and the racers.

For the Daily Prompt: varnish.

K is for keen

K is for keen.

Welcome to 7 sins and friends, about feelings and whoa, am I behind! I am supposed to be up to N! Time to catch up and I am keen to do it! Hopefully my words will remain keen and entrancing.

1. finely sharpened, as an edge; so shaped as to cut or pierce substances readily: a keen razor.
2. sharp, piercing, or biting: a keen wind; keen satire.
3. characterized by strength and distinctness of perception; extremely sensitive or responsive: keen eyes; keen ears.

Now the folks in the picture are very keen as well: they are trying to win the  Kinetic Sculpture Race. The winner gains the title of most mediocre. The kinetic sculptures are human powered and have to travel on land, by sea and through mud. The water here today is 50 degrees  and is not much warmer at the end of the summer. They have to be keen to paddle through that water! Every sculpture has to carry a teddy bear and bribes for the judges and officials… it is kinetic madness….

4. having or showing great mental penetration or acumen: keen reasoning; a keen mind.
5. animated by or showing strong feeling or desire: keen competition.
6. intense, as feeling or desire: keen ambition; keen jealousy.

K

7. eager; interested; enthusiastic (often followed by about, on, etc., or an infinitive): She is really keen on going swimming.
8. Slang. great; wonderful; marvelous.

I am still keen for this contest, even with catch up due! What are you keen for? And of course it’s a keen contest with lots of keen contestants….
