wool socks and chocolate

For the Ragtag Daily Prompt: tradition.

One of our traditions now is wool socks and chocolate. My kids are now both young adults. When my daughter was in high school they told me no more plastic junk in the Christmas stockings. “We want wool socks and chocolate!” My daughter is a minimalist. She loves the Darn Tough socks. She has every intention of testing their lifetime guarantee.

I still show up with a yearly silly thing to play with on Christmas morning, but it’s feeling less ok to buy plastic, since it is made from oil. I will be making my own silly things soon, probably finger puppets.

Thinking I might take up this chocolate tradition as well. Yummy! 😉

  2. My 19-yo daughter has all kinds of cool socks. Our stockings also had a lot of chocolate in them this year. And I hear you on the plastic trinkets. We re-use our wrapping paper every year too. A lot of the wrapping paper we have comes from my mom, who buys new every year because she can (memories of growing up poor die hard). So we have some paper dating back to when the kids were babies and toddlers. I like it because it gives me memories of happy Christmases past.

My old Christmas wrap rather shredded in my suitcase. I taped wrapping back together at the other end. I should now start passing on the Christmas cloth bags that my mother in law made that we’ve used over and over for years. Drawstring bags of Christmas fabric….
