USS Constellation, A Sloop of War, by the 19th century naval classifications. In the 60’s and seventies some people were arguing that this was actually the old Frigate Constellation ( a classmate of the Constitution). Actually it’s a Civil War era build with some remaining pieces of the Constellation included. According to a naval historian I knew the Navy did not have the money to build a new ship, but they did have the money to rebuild and old one. So with a bit of magic they took the remaining salvageable bits of one ship, new materials and presto chango – the USS Constellation.
