Sails? or laundry drying? (Actually, I think I know their purpose, but I’d rather see bedsheets!)
Oh, sails….
Oh, sails…. but what do you think the purpose is?
Well, we often used a small sail, called a riding sail, when at anchor or a mooring to help keep the boat headed into the wind. That was the first thing that came to mind (and I was kidding about the bedsheets!)
On the other hand, maybe square riggers don’t use riding sails. I’m thinking about this…
